I was inspired by an episode of Triple D. One morning for my daughter's birthday and a slumber party for her friends, I cooked it my way. There was no whole loaf, but they wanted more... They had to buy two loaves.
French Toast Ingredients and Seasonings:
- 1 loaf of bread
- 1 jar of soft peanut butter
- 1 jar of jelly (choose flavor)
- 8 eggs (depending on portion/person)
- 1/4 coffee whiter for 4 eggs (flavor of your choice)
- 3 tablespoons cinnamon and sugar mixture
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons of white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground spices
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tablespoon cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 cups oil of your choice
French Toast Instructions
- The first step for me is always the preparatory work. So, let's start the bread making process. Open the bread and cut the crust all the way around. (You can cover it for another time, like a house salad toast.) When the bread is cut, place each slice on a cutting board one at a time and flatten each slice with a screwdriver.
- After completing the first step, open the peanut butter and jelly jar. Use a butter knife and spread the other half with the peanut butter and the other half with the jelly. Then first roll the jelly side like a fruit roll. Do this with each slice one at a time.
- Next, prepare the French toast dough. Mix the eggs, cinnamon mixture, sugar and coffee creamer in a bowl. I used the Italian cream flavor, it was great! You can use any flavor, but pay attention to the flavor of the spices at the end of the process. Put a frying pan over medium heat, preferably with oil, so that it is at least half full.
- Then prepare the mixture for the brush while the oil is heating. In a medium bowl, combine the cinnamon, brown sugar, white sugar, allspice, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves and ginger.
- Once the oil starts to sizzle a little on top, dip each roll in the French toast mixture, coating all sides and place directly in the pan. Leave in the oil for about 2 minutes on each side, or until the outside is golden brown or cooked through. Using tongs for this process, remove them from the pan and place them on a wire rack to cool.
- Finally, when I was about halfway through the cooking, I took the time to finish the final stages of what had already been done. This allows them to cool while retaining enough heat for the seasoning to stick to the rolls. Using your hands (two clean hands), coat each roll with the seasoning mixture and return to a wire rack to cool.
- Follow steps 5 and 6 until bread is ready or desired amount per person is ready. It is best served as warm as possible. Serve and enjoy! Whipped cream can be added if desired.
- As a side note, I have found that any topping will work with this recipe as some people are allergic. I used raspberry cream cheese filling, cream cheese, guava, Nutella and raspberry filling. Almost everything goes with it. My next adventure is to chop up fresh bacon and use it in peanut butter to make a delicious ingredient.
